My Husky Dogs!

Dogs, Husky Love

A bit about me and my dogs, Sasha and Wolfy!

My relationships with my dogs (Sasha and Wolfy) are not like your typical relationship with all the cuddles and playing catch. I’m more of a not so hand on type of gal! I actually hate it when they slobber all over the floor and when their wet nose touches my skin. It grosses me out, and to think I grew up around all sorts of pets.

To be totally honest, after an incident with a dog chasing me when I was around 8 years old, I was terrified of dogs. To have overcome this fear is great as I now have two wonderful dogs that show me their unconditional love and affection even when I’m more drawn back then they are.

So I have Sasha (female) and Wolfy (male). Now Sasha is Wolfy’s mother but more about that later on.

Sasha was a gift to me from my husband. I had always adored Husky dogs from afar and since I had overcome my fear of dogs, my husband, who at the time was my fiancé, decided to gift me a dog! Big shock I know, but I knew I could do this. I could take care of her. It would be a piece of cake! Hmm maybe not!

Sasha’s puppies from her second pregnancy

She was around 6 months old when we got her and at the time we already had a poodle(was actually my husbands). Training Sasha was hard and I guess at that age it was even harder for her to adapt to her new home. To tell you the truth, I had no idea where to start with training her so my husband stepped in. He did most of the work. I just comforted her and have her a cuddle or two but very short ones! She was such a handful and especially while teaching her obedience, well let’s just say she ate her way through all of our furniture. You name it, from the couch to the wood frame on the doors! I’m glad my husband is very patient as I was not!

Back to present day. Sasha is now 11 years old and she is still very playful and loves to be cuddled. She has had 2 pregnancies and was spayed after the delivery of her pups of the last pregnancy.  Her first pregnancy was in 2012 and she had 3 puppies, one of which chose us and so yep, you guessed it, he never got adopted! That’s Wolfy! With her second pregnancy she had problems with the delivery and so we took her to the vet for a C-section. She gave birth to 6 puppies in total but one unfortunately did not make it! All of the puppies were adopted and found great homes.

Wolfy having a blast in the snow

As for Wolfy, well he is now 7 years old. He started off being a very lazy pup and he would eat so much that I thought his belly would explode! Wolfy is taller and way stronger than his mother and yet Sasha has managed to knock me down while on our walks, whereas he has yet to do something like this.

He currently weighs 30kg so you can imagine how much he pulls and what it’s like taking him for a walk. Wolfy is also full of energy, loves to give kisses on the ear and always wants your attention. He too is a handful just as much as Sasha is!

Now you all know that Husky dogs do not bark, they actually howl. This is one of my favourite things….when they both howl together, it’s so amazing to see and hear! I also love the fact that they know my boundarries, when to push my limits and when to back off. They know that they must follow the rules of our home, such as not sitting on the couch, but they also know when they can get away with a once off bending of the rules.

How about all of you. How did you get your pet?

What do you love or hate about them?

How old are they and what was it like when you first brought them home?

Hi there! I’m Dimitra!

I love coffee, travelling, daydreaming, organising, dancing and crafting.

I help you get rid of the clutter in your home, establish new easy organising systems which you and your family can keep on top of so as to never have clutter again.

I also establish positive rules to be able to maintain the clutter free lifestyle you envision.

With my help we eliminate the stress and overwhelm of the process and at the same time you get to understand more about your own habits. This will eventually help you not fall back into those ways which had allowed you to accumulate clutter in the first place.

Space means more free time, this means more time spent with our families and doing things we love. Not spending the whole time trying to get our home clean and under control.

Adorable pups! I can realte. Training can be super difficult. I have a rescue named Ryder. He is the love of my life. I got him when he was 1. He is now 4 and a half. I am not a big fan of dog kisses, especially in the face. Luckily, he is not a drooler and his breath isn’t “doggie” bad. haha. I love cuddles. He is hte best cuddler. He loves curling up under blankets.

It’s really amazing how they know and sense what we like and dislike! Ryder sound like a dog who loves and adores you! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us with your blog in regards to Ryder and yourself! My Wolfy is the one who cuddles and I mean literally gives hugs! He is the first to greet me at the door and will not leave me alone unless I cuddle him. He’s only just started doing this which is a bit strange for me. I guess as they get older they want more attention.

  2. Joleisa

Well, I still have my fear of dogs, so I guess I will never own one. I was afraid of cats too, but not so much anymore. I made my son a promise that if he scored a b or above in all of his (11) subjects, he could get a cat, which he really wanted. Well, guess what? He did well so I couldn’t go back on my word! So we got a lovely ginger kitten called Marley. I adored her but my son wasn’t doing a good job of remembering to fit her and clean the litter etc. So after several warnings, I gave her up to a lovely home. Needless to say, I cried when I was handing her over. So I know the love for pets. Unfortunately, my experience only lasted about 10 months!
Love the look of your huskies and I learned something new because I didn’t know that they don’t bark! Thanks for sharing this piece.

Joleisa, it is very hard to overcome fears so congratulations on overcoming at least one of your fears. I am so glad you enjoyed my work and that you learnt something new. I always say that you find out something new every day!

  3. Edwin Prasetio

All this time I could have only seen huskies on television, paper, or internet. I don’t think I will ever find them in tropical area like I live in. They’re really cute and so much look like wolves..

    • D

Thank you Edwin for your kind words about my dogs! They indeed look like wolves but they also act like them sometimes too. They are descendant from wolves so they have it in their blood. I will try to get a post up about the history of Huskies so as to better explain this!
